Back when I was in high school (which was sadly too long ago), the school photos were exactly the same every year. The school hall would get converted into a studio for a day, each student wore their uniform and sat in a school chair that was placed in front of a blue backdrop. We all got one single individual shot – hands in lap, shoulder turned slightly, face the camera and 1…2…3…smile! Sounds like a really boring photo? You bet! I nearly fell asleep just describing that.
Things are a little bit more fun over in America. Students get beautiful year 12 (senior year) photos done outdoors with no uniform nor the one pose. How much cooler is that than the headshot with the blue background that I got when I was in my year 12 and wearing Harry Potter round glasses (maybe I would’ve sounded less nerdy had I referenced John Lennon instead).
Late last year, I had the pleasure of doing this kind of shoot for the firs time with the gorgeous Brandi who was visiting Sydney with her family. She is from New Mexico and since there are no beaches there, we did the majority of the shoot at the beach. Brandi really is beautiful inside and out. She is such a warm, friendly and humble person and a real delight to photograph. I think Brandi especially enjoyed the last part of this shoot when she got to experience how lovely our water really is hehe =)
